Recovrr App Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the Recovrr app and to the Recovrr application server used by the app.

Recovrr is designed to help Narcotics Anonymous members and people with a legitimate interest in NA find meetings and privately connect with other Recovrr members.

Recovrr.org Inc. is independent of Narcotics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous World Services Inc., and na.org.

Your Account

You need an approved Recovrr account to use member features in the app.

The account uses a valid email address. The email address is used for account identification, authentication, account administration, password-related communication, and Recovrr communications that need to reach you.

Your email address is stored by the Recovrr service but is not displayed to other Recovrr members.

Accounts are subject to an approval process. A signup request may be reviewed by an authorized Recovrr administrator before the account is activated.

Passwords and Login Information

Recovrr does not store your password on the server as readable plain text.

The server stores authentication information used to verify a password rather than a retrievable copy of the password.

If a password is forgotten, it is reset rather than recovered and shown to an administrator.

The app may keep login credentials or related authentication information in Apple’s keychain on your device so that you do not have to enter the information every time you use the app.

Apple’s keychain is part of the operating system and may preserve keychain items across app reinstalls or, depending on your Apple settings and configuration, make keychain information available through Apple’s device/account mechanisms.

Recovrr provides a way to erase stored login information from the device when needed.

Your Profile

A Recovrr profile contains information used to identify you to other members of the service.

Depending on the information you choose to provide, your profile can include:

• a display name;
• a profile image;
• a tagline;
• a recovery date;
• a general location;
• a phone number;
• meeting attendance information; and
• relationship-related state needed to provide connections, requests, blocking, and notification choices.

Most profile information is optional.

Your display name does not need to be your legal name.

Information placed in a visible profile is intended to be seen by Recovrr members according to the visibility rules described below.

Profile Image

You may provide a profile image.

If you do not provide one, the app can use a placeholder.

A stored profile image is part of your Recovrr profile. Other members may see it where the app allows profile information to be displayed.

Do not use an image that you are not comfortable sharing with other members who can view your profile.

Tagline and Recovery Date

A tagline and recovery date are optional.

If you provide them, they are profile information and can be visible to other Recovrr members who are allowed to view your profile.

Phone Number

A phone number is optional.

A phone number is more restricted than ordinary profile information. It is made available to members with whom you have a completed mutual connection.

If you provide a number that supports text messaging, the app may offer connected members a way to call or text that number using normal device functions.

Location

Location is optional profile information.

New accounts begin with member-location sharing hidden.

If you choose to make your location available, Recovrr does not provide your precise personal location to other members.

The server deliberately reduces the precision of a member location before it is presented to another member. The location shown to others is therefore an approximate or “fuzzed” location rather than the precise location you supplied.

The service has historically described this as randomization within approximately a five-kilometer radius.

You may also hide your member location completely.

When your member location is hidden:

• other members are not shown your location; and
• you do not appear as a nearby member in location-based member searches.

Using Location on the Device

The app may ask iOS for permission to use device location for features such as finding nearby meetings, positioning a map, or updating your own optional member location.

iOS controls whether the app is allowed to obtain protected location information.

You can deny or revoke location permission in the device’s privacy settings.

The fact that the app uses a precise device location to perform a requested function does not mean that the precise location is displayed to other Recovrr members.

Meeting Locations Are Different

Recovrr treats a member’s personal location differently from a meeting location.

Meeting information comes from meeting-list services and may contain an exact street address or other precise location because members need that information to find an in-person meeting.

The privacy protection applied to a member’s personal location should not be confused with the location of a public or published meeting.

Nearby Meetings

The Nearby Meetings feature is intended to provide a useful local set of meetings, not a guarantee that every possible meeting is included.

The search distance is not necessarily fixed. A dense area may use a smaller effective radius than a rural area.

Meeting Attendance

You may tell Recovrr that you attend a meeting regularly or that you expect to attend a particular occurrence.

Meeting attendance is optional member information.

Attendance information is restricted. It is shared with members who have the appropriate completed connection with you rather than being exposed as general public profile information.

Connections

Recovrr members begin without connections to one another.

A connection is mutual.

One member may ask to connect with another, but the more privileged connected state is established only when the relationship is reciprocated.

A completed connection can allow additional information or functionality to become available between the two members, including phone-number visibility and meeting-attendance information.

Your Relationship List Is Private

Recovrr needs to store relationship state in order to provide connection requests, mutual connections, blocking, and related features.

Other ordinary Recovrr members are not given a list of your relationships.

The fact that you are connected to, have requested a connection with, or have blocked another member is not intended to be published as a social graph to other users.

Blocking

You may block another member.

Blocking affects both sides of visibility.

When a block is in effect, the blocked member can no longer see you through Recovrr, and you can no longer see that member through Recovrr.

The service must retain the relationship state needed to enforce the block.

Email Between Members

Recovrr is designed to let members contact one another without exposing their private email addresses.

When you use Recovrr to send an email to another member, the Recovrr server performs the routing.

The recipient’s private email address does not need to be given to the sending member.

Likewise, receiving a message through Recovrr does not mean that Recovrr has disclosed the sender’s private account email address to you.

The email service itself necessarily uses the destination address internally in order to deliver the message.

Feedback and Reports

The app can provide ways to contact Recovrr, submit feedback, or report a member or problem.

Information you deliberately include in a report or feedback message is sent to Recovrr so that authorized people can review it.

Depending on the feature, feedback may be identifiable or may offer an anonymous option.

If you ask Recovrr to respond to you, sufficient contact information must be available for us to do so.

Information Stored on the Recovrr Server

Recovrr stores information needed to operate the member service.

Depending on how you use the app, this can include:

• your account identifier;
• your email address;
• authentication-related information;
• display name and other profile fields;
• profile-image data;
• optional location information and location-visibility state;
• optional recovery date;
• optional phone number;
• meeting-attendance information;
• connection requests and completed relationships;
• blocked relationships;
• notification-related preferences or state; and
• other application state needed to provide features you use.

This is personal information used by the service. It should not be described as though the server receives no data.

Why We Use This Information

We use account and profile information to provide Recovrr functions, including:

• signing you in;
• maintaining your account;
• displaying your profile according to Recovrr’s visibility rules;
• helping members discover one another when location sharing is enabled;
• establishing and enforcing relationship states;
• displaying connection-restricted information;
• relaying communications;
• administering the service;
• providing support;
• preventing or investigating abuse;
• diagnosing software and server problems; and
• protecting the security and reliability of the service.

We do not use this information to build advertising profiles.

Meeting Service

The Recovrr app also communicates with a separate Recovrr meeting service.

The meeting service supplies meeting information used for meeting search and display.

Meeting information is not the same thing as Recovrr member profile information. The meeting directory may contain public or published meeting details such as meeting name, schedule, format, Internet meeting information, and physical address.

Technical and Server Information

When an app communicates with an Internet server, the server necessarily receives technical information needed to process the connection.

Operational server records may include information such as:

• network or IP address;
• date and time;
• requested endpoint or operation;
• HTTP/server information;
• errors and diagnostic information; and
• security-related events.

We use operational information to run, diagnose, maintain, and protect the service.

We do not use it for advertising.

We do not state a fixed public retention period for ordinary operational logs because retention may vary with hosting, diagnostic, backup, and security requirements.

Administrators

A limited number of authorized Recovrr administrators may access server-side information when access is needed to operate the service.

Administrative access can be necessary for purposes such as:

• reviewing signup requests;
• administering accounts;
• resetting credentials;
• responding to support requests;
• investigating reports, abuse, or security problems;
• locking or deleting an account; and
• maintaining the service.

Information that is hidden from other ordinary Recovrr members is not necessarily technically hidden from an authorized administrator who has legitimate server-level access.

Recovrr’s administrative model is intended to limit what administrators do with member information. Administrative access is for operation and support, not advertising, profiling, or sale.

Third Parties and Infrastructure

Apple

Apple distributes the app and provides operating-system services used by the app.

Information processed by Apple in connection with the App Store, iOS permissions, device services, Apple accounts, keychain behavior, and similar Apple functions is also subject to Apple’s own privacy practices.

Meeting Infrastructure

Recovrr uses its meeting-search infrastructure to obtain meeting information.

That system processes meeting-search requests separately from the Recovrr member-account server.

Internet and Hosting Providers

Network, hosting, domain, email-delivery, security, and similar infrastructure providers may process technical information as part of providing those services.

Recovrr does not provide member information to third parties for advertising or data-broker purposes.

Advertising, Profiling, and Sale

Recovrr does not display third-party advertising in the app.

Recovrr does not sell member information.

Recovrr does not provide member information to data brokers.

Recovrr does not operate the member service as a source of commercial behavioral profiles.

Security

Recovrr uses technical and administrative measures intended to protect member information.

Credentials are not stored on the server as readable passwords.

The application uses encrypted HTTPS connections to its production services.

Sensitive login information stored locally by the app uses Apple’s keychain facilities.

Member-location visibility is deliberately restricted.

Private email addresses are not exposed to ordinary members through member-to-member email.

No Internet-connected service can guarantee that unauthorized access is impossible.

If Recovrr becomes aware of a security incident affecting personal information, we will respond according to the nature of the incident and applicable requirements.

Account Deletion

You can delete your Recovrr account through the service’s account-management process.

Account deletion permanently removes the account’s application data from the Recovrr server.

Deleting the account does not necessarily erase information that is outside the Recovrr account database and controlled by another system. Examples can include:

• an email message that was already delivered to another person’s mailbox;
• information retained independently by Apple;
• ordinary server or security logs;
• backups that have not yet aged out of a backup cycle; or
• records Recovrr must retain for a legitimate legal or security reason.

Those limited operational copies, if present, are not used to recreate an active deleted account.

Deleting Local Login Information

Deleting the Recovrr app and deleting a Recovrr account are different actions.

Because login information can be stored in Apple’s keychain, deleting the app from a device may not by itself erase every keychain item associated with login persistence.

Recovrr provides a device-side history/login eraser for circumstances in which a member wants to remove that stored login information.

Your Choices and Control

Depending on the feature, you can control information by:

• choosing which optional profile fields to provide;
• hiding your member location;
• changing profile information;
• deciding whether to establish a connection;
• removing or changing relationship state where the app allows it;
• blocking another member;
• deciding whether to provide a phone number;
• deciding whether to record meeting attendance;
• controlling iOS permissions on the device;
• removing locally stored login information; and
• deleting your Recovrr account.

Some choices affect whether a feature can work. For example, hiding your member location prevents location-based member discovery.

Legal Requirements

Recovrr does not disclose member information merely because someone asks for it.

We may preserve or disclose information when we reasonably believe we are legally required to do so through valid legal process, or when necessary to protect the security and integrity of the service or address an immediate threat where the law permits such action.

If this ever becomes necessary, we will limit disclosure to what is reasonably required by the circumstances.

Children

Recovrr is designed around participation in and legitimate interest in Narcotics Anonymous and is not designed as a service for collecting information from children.

If we learn that an account involves personal information from a child in circumstances where it should not have been collected, we will take reasonable steps to address the account and information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when Recovrr’s features, infrastructure, or privacy practices change.

A material change in what personal information Recovrr collects, who can see it, or how it is used should be reflected in an updated policy.

The date at the end of this page shows when this version was last updated.
